FHWA, on behalf of TxDOT, issued a Notice of Intent to prepare an EIS for the 36A South Highway, a proposed new approximately 41-mile north-south highway from FM 1994 south of Needville, Texas to I-10 west of Katy, Texas, crossing Austin, Fort Bend, Harris, and Waller counties. The project is proposed because the study area lacks major north-south highways, limiting mobility and connectivity. The EIS will evaluate a range of build alternatives and a no-build alternative. Public scoping meetings are scheduled for August 26 and 28, 2025, with written comments due by September 12, 2025.12
