The NRC issued an EA and FONSI for ProTechnics, a division of Core Laboratories LP, approving a license amendment under 10 CFR 20.2002 to allow disposal of well logging sand-outs and well logging returns containing residual radioactive tracer material into 13 EPA-permitted Class I non-hazardous industrial waste disposal wells on the North Slope of Alaska. The EA analyzed two alternatives: the proposed action and no action. NRC staff concluded that radiological and non-radiological impacts are not significant, given the depth and mechanical isolation of Class I wells, the low-activity short-lived radionuclides involved, and the Zero-Wash bead product design that prevents radioactive material wash-off.12
