The Forest Service is revising its 2019 Notice of Intent to prepare an EIS for the Austin Project on the Malheur National Forest (Blue Mountain and Prairie City Ranger Districts) and Wallowa-Whitman National Forest (Whitman Ranger District) in Oregon. The revision updates the project timeline, addresses possible use of emergency action determination authority under IIJA section 40807, and identifies substantive provisions for two additional potential amendments to Malheur Forest Plan Management Area 14 (standards 2 and 19, affecting visual corridors and seedtree harvest along U.S. Highway 26). A second 30-day scoping period closes June 16, 2025; the draft EIS is expected spring 2025 and the final EIS summer or fall 2025.12
