FERC has issued a Notice of Intent to prepare an Environmental Assessment (EA) for the relicensing of Pacific Gas and Electric Company's 131.52-megawatt Balch Hydroelectric Project (No. 175-032) on the North Fork Kings River in Fresno County, California, approximately 45 miles northeast of Fresno. PG&E filed the relicense application on April 18, 2024. Commission staff determined that licensing the project does not constitute a major federal action significantly affecting the human environment, so an EA rather than an EIS will be prepared. The EA is targeted for issuance on July 28, 2026, with a 30-day public comment period to follow.12
