The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) is rescinding its 2016 Notice of Intent and will not prepare a final EIS for the Baltimore to Washington Superconducting Magnetic Levitation (SCMAGLEV) Project. The project, developed by the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) and Baltimore Washington Rapid Rail (BWRR), would have connected Washington, DC, to Baltimore, MD, via BWI Airport at speeds up to 310 mph. FRA determined the DEIS alternatives cannot be modified to avoid significant, unresolvable effects to multiple federal agencies and federal property, rendering the project infeasible as proposed. The rescission is effective immediately.12
