Draft Environmental Impact Statement for the Berkeley Space Center at NASA Research Park

NASA, in cooperation with UC Berkeley, has published a Draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the Berkeley Space Center at NASA Research Park. The proposed project would be located at NASA's Ames Research Center in Santa Clara County, California. The EIS is a joint EIS and environmental impact report (EIR) satisfying both NEPA and the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). This Federal Register notice is a correction to the April 28, 2026 notice, updating the email address in the ADDRESSES section to arc-nepacomments@mail.nasa.gov, and it opens a 45-day public comment period.

Draft Environmental Impact Statement for the Berkeley Space Center at NASA Research Park

NASA, in cooperation with UC Berkeley, has published a draft joint Environmental Impact Statement and Environmental Impact Report (EIS/EIR) for the Berkeley Space Center at NASA Research Park. The project site is at NASA Ames Research Center in Santa Clara County, California. The proposed action would develop academic and research facilities, conference space, student and faculty housing, short-term lodging, retail, and open spaces on the Ames campus. Two build alternatives are evaluated: Alternative 1 at approximately 2.3 million square feet and a reduced-density Alternative 2 at approximately 1.4 million square feet, along with a No-Action Alternative. A 45-day public comment period runs through June 10, 2026, with an online public meeting scheduled for May 13, 2026.
