FERC is preparing an Environmental Assessment for the proposed surrender of the Brighton Hydroelectric Project No. 3633, located on the Patuxent River in Howard and Montgomery counties, Maryland. KC Brighton LLC filed the surrender application on December 29, 2022, citing that relicensing costs and anticipated mitigation measures would make continued operation uneconomic. The licensee proposes to remove all generating equipment within the powerhouse, with no ground-disturbing activities and no changes to the dam owned by Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission. Commission staff plans to issue the EA by May 9, 2025, followed by a 30-day public comment period.123
