The Bureau of Land Management has released a Draft EIS for P4 Production LLC's Caldwell Canyon Revised Mine and Reclamation Plan Project in Caribou County, Idaho. P4 proposes open-pit phosphate mining on three federal leases and one state lease over a 40-year period, constructing two open pits (North and South), haul roads, utility lines, and water management features across approximately 1,832 total acres of public, National Forest, state, and private lands. The Draft EIS analyzes the Proposed Action, three action alternatives, and a No Action Alternative. The Proposed Action is the agency-preferred alternative. Public comments are due within 45 days of the EPA's Federal Register notice of availability.12
