This Federal Register notice, published May 1, 2026, announces the initiation of a countervailing duty (CVD) investigation by the U.S. Department of Commerce into imports of carbon and alloy steel wire rod from Algeria. The petition was filed on April 6, 2026, by five domestic producers: Charter Steel, Commercial Metals Company, Liberty Steel USA, Nucor Corporation, and Optimus Steel, LLC. Commerce found sufficient industry support and identified 21 subsidy programs alleged to be provided by the Government of Algeria. A preliminary determination is due within 65 days of initiation. Because Algeria is not a Subsidies Agreement Country, the U.S. International Trade Commission is not required to make an injury determination, though Commerce will notify the ITC as required by statute.12
