The FAA released a Draft Condensed Environmental Assessment (Draft CEA) for the proposed decommissioning and redevelopment of Runway 13L-31R at Chicago Midway International Airport (MDW) in Chicago, Illinois. The Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA) is requesting FAA approval to decommission the runway, which has been temporarily closed since August 10, 2023, and is operating as temporary Taxiway H. The runway does not meet current design standards. The project occurs entirely on airport property. The public comment period runs through January 7, 2025, and an in-person public hearing may be requested by contacting the CDA.1
