Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant, Units 1 and 2 License Renewal

Pacific Gas and Electric Company; Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant, Units 1 and 2; Final Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has issued NUREG-1437, Supplement 62, the Final Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement for the renewal of operating licenses DPR-80 and DPR-82 for Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant, Units 1 and 2, located in Avila Beach, California. The renewal would extend plant operation by 20 years beyond the current license expiration dates. Alternatives evaluated include the no-action alternative and replacement power alternatives. The NRC staff concluded that adverse environmental impacts are not so great that preserving the license renewal option for energy-planning decision-makers would be unreasonable.

The NRC is issuing for public comment Draft Supplement 62 to the Generic Environmental Impact Statement (NUREG-1437) for the proposed renewal of Facility Operating License Nos. DPR-80 and DPR-82 for an additional 20 years for Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant, Units 1 and 2, located in San Luis Obispo County, California. The applicant is Pacific Gas and Electric Company. Alternatives evaluated include no-action and replacement power alternatives. The NRC staff's preliminary recommendation is that adverse environmental impacts are not so great that preserving the option of license renewal would be unreasonable. Comments are due December 16, 2024.
