FERC has issued a Notice of Intent to prepare an Environmental Assessment for a non-capacity amendment to the Dresden Island Project (No. 12626), a hydropower project on the Illinois River in Grundy County, Illinois, licensed to Northern Illinois Hydropower, LLC. The applicant proposes to redesign the unconstructed project at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Dresden Island Lock and Dam by reducing the powerhouse and tailrace size, increasing turbines from four to ten submersible propeller units, and rerouting transmission lines, which would reduce generation capacity from 10.96 MW to 9.56 MW. FERC staff plans to issue the EA by July 14, 2026, followed by a 30-day comment period.12
