The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service proposes to authorize the Bureau of Land Management to incidentally harass up to 10 Southern Beaufort Sea polar bears by Level B harassment during oil well plugging and reclamation, soil sampling, snow trail and airstrip construction, and summer cleanup at the East Simpson #1 legacy well site on the North Slope Borough of Alaska, between western Smith Bay and Oliktok. The authorization would run for one year from issuance. FWS prepared a draft Environmental Assessment and preliminarily found no significant impact on the human environment. No Level A harassment or lethal take is proposed. Comments are due March 16, 2026.12
