The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is soliciting public comment on a draft Environmental Assessment and Habitat Conservation Plan submitted by the Four Lakes Task Force for the Edenville Dam Restoration Project in Gladwin and Midland Counties, Michigan. The applicant seeks a 30-year incidental take permit under the Endangered Species Act to authorize take of the federally endangered snuffbox mussel (Epioblasma triquetra) incidental to refilling the 1,908-acre Wixom Lake basin to court-ordered lake levels. The draft EA analyzes three alternatives: no action, dam removal, and the proposed action. Estimated lethal take is 84 snuffbox individuals. Comments are due September 12, 2024.12
