The NRC issued an Environmental Assessment and Finding of No Significant Impact for an exemption request by Southern Nuclear Operating Company (SNC) to maintain three already-loaded and load five new MPC-68M canisters with continuous basket shims (MPC-68M-CBS) in the HI-STORM 100 Cask System at the Edwin I. Hatch Nuclear Plant ISFSI in Georgia, despite these configurations not complying with Certificate of Compliance No. 1014, Amendment No. 11. The NRC found no significant radiological or non-radiological environmental impacts from the CBS variant basket design, concluding a full EIS is not warranted. The exemption is needed to maintain spent fuel pool margin and enable reactor refueling, with the next loading campaign scheduled for April 2025.1
