The Forest Service is preparing an EIS for the End of the World Project on the Salmon River Ranger District of the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests in Idaho, approximately six miles south of Grangeville. A federal court remanded the prior EA, DN, and FONSI for further evaluation of old growth retention and cumulative effects with the adjacent Hungry Ridge Project under NFMA and NEPA. The EIS will carry forward three alternatives from the 2021 EA, including No Action, and will analyze timber harvest, prescribed burning, road decommissioning, and aquatic improvements within a Wildland Urban Interface area entirely within the Nez Perce Tribe ceded territory.
