EPA Region 10 has issued a Notice of Intent to prepare a programmatic Environmental Assessment for the Contaminated Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA) Lands Assistance Program, which funds site assessment and cleanup of contamination on ANCSA-conveyed lands in Alaska. The program addresses contaminants including arsenic, asbestos, lead, mercury, PCBs, and petroleum products that were present at the time of conveyance and pose risks to human health, subsistence resources, and wetlands. Three alternatives are under consideration. Concurrently, EPA is initiating Section 106 consultation with the Alaska SHPO and intends to develop a Programmatic Agreement governing historic property reviews. Cooperating agencies include the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the State of Alaska. Scoping comments are due March 20, 2026.1
