The Department of the Air Force has issued a Notice of Intent to prepare an EIS for the beddown of two F-35A squadrons at Moody Air Force Base in Lowndes and Lanier Counties, Georgia. The action is driven by the scheduled retirement of A-10C aircraft and the need to sustain fighter combat capability. The EIS will analyze two alternatives: the Proposed Action (beddown with associated construction, personnel, and airspace operations) and No Action (no F-35A beddown, leading to deactivation of the 74th and 75th Fighter Squadrons). Resources of concern include noise, biological resources, cultural resources, and socioeconomics. A public scoping period runs through August 25, 2025, with virtual meetings on August 12 and 14.12
