The Bureau of Land Management California Bakersfield Field Office is preparing a supplemental EIS and potential Resource Management Plan amendment to analyze the environmental effects of oil and gas leasing and development on approximately 400,000 acres of public land and 450,000 acres of Federal mineral estate across eight California counties. The notice initiates scoping and was filed in response to a 2022 federal court settlement agreement. Preliminary issues include air quality, water quality, special status species, archaeology, and fluid minerals. The BLM will consider alternatives carried forward from the 2014 Bakersfield RMP and the 2019 hydraulic fracturing supplemental EIS. Comments are due by July 23, 2025.12
