The Nuclear Regulatory Commission issued an Environmental Assessment and Finding of No Significant Impact for a license amendment requested by Homestake Mining Company of California under NRC Materials License No. SUA-1471 for the Grants Reclamation Project, a former uranium mill near Grants, New Mexico (Cibola County). The amendment would change the approved cover design for the large tailings pile to an evapotranspiration cover design, using approximately 1.09 million cubic meters of soil and rock from on-site borrow areas. The NRC concluded no significant impacts on land use, water, air quality, cultural resources, threatened species, or radiological health, and declined to prepare a full EIS.1
