BOEM has released a Draft Programmatic EIS analyzing four alternatives for Gulf of Mexico OCS oil and gas lease sales under the 2024-2029 National OCS Oil and Gas Leasing Program. The proposed action (Alternative B) would offer all available unleased acreage in the Western, Central, and Eastern Planning Areas. Two other action alternatives would exclude targeted portions of those areas for environmental protection. BOEM found potential impacts ranging from negligible to moderate adverse across resources including marine mammals, benthic communities, sea turtles, air and water quality, and coastal habitats, with GHG emissions and space-use conflicts identified as issues of programmatic concern.
