FERC has issued a Notice of Intent to prepare an Environmental Assessment for the relicense of Pacific Gas and Electric Company's 1,212-megawatt Helms Pumped Storage Project (No. 2735), located approximately 50 miles northeast of Fresno on the North Fork Kings River and Helms Creek in Fresno and Madera Counties, California. PG&E filed the relicense application on April 18, 2024. FERC staff determined the project does not constitute a major federal action significantly affecting the human environment, and therefore an EA rather than an EIS is appropriate. The EA is targeted for issuance on June 17, 2026, with a 30-day public comment period to follow.12
