The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) New Mexico State Office issued this Notice of Intent to prepare a Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement for the Hermit's Peak and Calf Canyon Burn Scar Project Watershed Plan, covering roughly 500 square miles across seven counties in northern New Mexico. The HPCC wildfire burned over 341,735 acres in 2022, with two-thirds on private property, causing severe flooding, erosion, sedimentation, water quality impairment, and loss of habitat. The PEIS will evaluate four alternatives, including a no-action alternative, two structural and non-structural action alternatives, and a land treatment option, with the U.S. Forest Service as cooperating agency. The 45-day public scoping period runs through September 29, 2025.12
