The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has issued a Notice of Intent to prepare an Environmental Assessment for a temporary variance requested by the City of Idaho Falls, Idaho, licensee for the Idaho Falls Hydroelectric Project (Project No. 2842-046). The project sits on the Snake River in Bonneville County, Idaho, on Bureau of Land Management lands. The variance would suspend required minimum flows to the bypassed reach at Upper Development Dam No. 1 to allow cofferdam construction for pelican gate maintenance, dewatering roughly 1,100 feet of bypass reach from approximately July to early December 2025. The comment period closes March 31, 2025, and FERC staff plans to issue the EA by June 27, 2025.12
