NMFS released a Draft Environmental Assessment evaluating the effects of issuing Incidental Take Permit No. 27490 to the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth School for Marine Science and Technology (SMAST) under ESA section 10(a)(1)(B). The permit would authorize incidental take of ESA-listed sea turtles (green, Kemp's ridley, leatherback, and loggerhead) and Atlantic sturgeon associated with fisheries survey activities within and adjacent to the Massachusetts/Rhode Island Wind Energy Area over a 10-year permit term. Two alternatives are analyzed: No Action and issuing the permit as requested. Comments are due by February 7, 2025.1
