The FAA has released a Draft Condensed Environmental Assessment (Draft CEA) for proposed airport improvements at Chicago Midway International Airport (MDW) in Chicago, Illinois. The action is the decommissioning and redevelopment of Runway 13L–31R, which has been seldom used, does not meet current design standards, and has been temporarily closed since August 10, 2023, operating as temporary Taxiway H. The Chicago Department of Aviation is requesting FAA approval to decommission the runway and repurpose its pavement for other airfield needs. The project occurs entirely on airport property. The public comment period runs through January 7, 2025, and a public meeting may be requested by contacting the CDA.12
