FHWA and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation issued this Notice of Intent to prepare an EIS for the Interstate 794 Lake Interchange in Milwaukee County, Wisconsin. The study corridor covers approximately 1.5 miles of I-794 from the Marquette Interchange to the Daniel W. Hoan Bridge. Five alternatives are under consideration: No Build, Replace in Kind, two Freeway Improvement variants, and a Freeway Removal option that would replace the elevated freeway with a surface boulevard. Key issues include 28 aging bridges nearing end of service life, substandard roadway geometry, historic district impacts, Section 4(f) properties, and waterway crossings. Comments are due January 5, 2026; a Draft EIS is expected October 2026.12
