The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) issued a Notice of Intent to prepare an EIS for its proposed purchase of electricity from the Jugfork Solar Project, a 200 MW AC solar facility with a 20 MW Battery Energy Storage System to be built by Competitive Power Ventures in Lee and Union Counties, Mississippi. The project would occupy roughly 1,000 acres of a 1,700-acre study area north of Tupelo and would require upgrading 6.4 miles of the Tupelo to Union 161-kV transmission line. TVA will evaluate two alternatives: the proposed action under a Power Purchase Agreement and No Action. Preliminary impacts include loss of deciduous forest and farmland, visual changes, and potential effects to wetlands. The scoping comment period closes October 7, 2024.1234
