GSA issued a Record of Decision on December 27, 2024, selecting preferred alternatives for the modernization and expansion of two land ports of entry (LPOEs) in Whatcom County, Washington. For the Lynden LPOE, GSA selected Alternative 3 (North-South Oriented LPOE Expansion), disturbing up to 10.3 acres including primarily agricultural land. For the Sumas LPOE, GSA selected Alternative 4 (Multi-Story Construction LPOE Expansion), disturbing up to 12.9 acres. Both facilities have not been significantly upgraded since the late 1980s and can no longer meet CBP operational needs. Construction sequencing options (concurrent or sequential) remain under evaluation for the design-build phase.12
