This is a procedural notice from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission revising the schedule for completing an Environmental Assessment (EA) for the proposed relicense of Pacific Gas and Electric Company's 162.72-megawatt Kerckhoff Hydroelectric Project No. 96 in California. PG&E filed the relicense application on November 24, 2020. Staff previously announced an EA target of September 2025; that target is now moved to December 31, 2025, to allow full review of information filed by PG&E. Pacific Gas and Electric Company; Notice of Intent To Prepare an Environmental Assessment

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has issued a Notice of Intent to prepare an Environmental Assessment (EA) for Pacific Gas and Electric Company's relicense application for the 162.72-megawatt Kerckhoff Hydroelectric Project No. 96, located on the San Joaquin River in Fresno and Madera Counties, California. PG&E proposes to retire one of two project powerhouses (K1), reducing generating capacity to 140 megawatts and decreasing the project footprint on federal lands administered by the Forest Service. FERC staff determined the project does not anticipate constituting a major federal action significantly affecting the quality of the human environment, and the EA is targeted for issuance with a 30-day comment period by September 19, 2025.
