The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission issued a Notice of Intent to prepare an Environmental Assessment for the Town of Wells' relicense application for the 698-kilowatt Lake Algonquin Hydroelectric Project No. 7274, located on the Sacandaga River in Hamilton County, New York. The relicense application was filed July 31, 2023. Commission staff determined, based on comments filed on the June 25, 2025 REA Notice, that licensing would not constitute a major federal action significantly affecting the human environment. The EA is targeted for issuance in September 2026 with a 30-day public comment period to follow.12
