The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) issued a Notice of Availability of an Environmental Assessment (EA) for the proposed Leaf River Capacity Expansion Project, filed under Docket No. CP26-17-000 by applicant Leaf River Energy Center, LLC. The project proposes to increase the working gas capacity of existing natural gas storage Caverns 2 and 4 by 2.6 billion standard cubic feet (Bscf), construct and operate new Cavern 5 with 12.5 Bscf of working gas capacity, build a utility Service Corridor connecting Cavern 5 to existing facilities, and install new compressor units totaling over 33,000 horsepower at the Compression Facility and an existing Booster Station. FERC concludes that approval of the proposed project would not constitute a major federal action significantly affecting the quality of the human environment.
