NRCS Utah State Office has issued a Notice of Intent to prepare an EIS for the Lower Bear River Watershed Plan in Box Elder County, Utah, covering a 249,572-acre watershed encompassing Tremonton, Elwood, Bear River City, Garland, and unincorporated areas. The plan addresses agricultural water delivery deficiencies, flood control, watershed protection, and recreational trail development, with federal construction costs expected to exceed $25 million. Three alternatives (No Action, Combine Canals, and Hammond Main/West Main Canal Improvement) will be evaluated. Cooperating agencies include EPA, Army Corps of Engineers, and Bureau of Reclamation. The NOI comment period closes July 15, 2024; the DEIS is expected approximately 21 months after NOI publication.
