NRCS is rescinding its February 9, 2023 Notice of Intent to prepare an EIS for the Lower Wood River Watershed Floodwater Reduction Project in five Nebraska counties. The project aimed to reduce flood risk to communities and agricultural lands in southcentral Nebraska through a diversion channel that would convey floodwater from the Wood River to the Platte River. Planning was terminated because the preferred alternative captured a drainage area of approximately 323,400 acres, exceeding the 250,000-acre statutory limit under the Watershed Protection and Flood Prevention Act of 1954. No other feasible alternatives were identified, so no EIS will be prepared.12
