The NRC issued Subsequent Renewed Facility Operating License No. DPR-22 to Northern States Power Company (NSPM) for Monticello Nuclear Generating Plant, Unit 1, a boiling water reactor located on the Mississippi River in Monticello, Minnesota, approximately 35 miles northwest of Minneapolis. The license authorizes operation at up to 2,004 megawatts thermal.1 The accompanying Record of Decision, issued December 30, 2024, is supported by NUREG-1437, Supplement 26, Second Renewal, the final site-specific EIS published November 2024, which concluded the adverse environmental impacts of subsequent license renewal are not so great that preserving the option of renewal for energy planning decisionmakers would be unreasonable.2
