FERC is preparing an Environmental Assessment for a non-capacity license amendment for the Neal Shoals Hydroelectric Project (No. 2315), located on the Broad River in South Carolina on Sumter National Forest lands. Applicant Dominion Energy South Carolina, Inc. proposes to replace four existing turbines with eight submersible turbine-generator units at existing draft tube openings, construct a new substation and underground duct bank, and decommission the existing generators in place. Generating capacity would increase from 4.4 MW to 5.6 MW while hydraulic capacity decreases from 3,500 cfs to 3,160 cfs. FERC staff plans to issue the EA by July 18, 2025, followed by a 30-day public comment period.12
