The Bureau of Land Management issued this Notice of Intent to prepare an EIS covering approximately 3,224 oil and gas leases sold across Colorado, Montana, New Mexico, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah, and Wyoming between February 2015 and December 2020, encompassing roughly 3.5 million acres. The leases were remanded to BLM by multiple federal courts following lawsuits brought by WildEarth Guardians challenging the adequacy of original environmental analyses, particularly regarding greenhouse gas emissions and the social cost of carbon. The EIS will also potentially analyze impacts to wildlife, water resources, and night skies. Public scoping comments are due March 17, 2025.12
