The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service received an incidental take permit application from the City of Tumwater Transportation and Engineering Department under ESA section 10(a)(1)(B), covering construction and infrastructure improvements at two sites in Tumwater, Thurston County, Washington. The 26.2-acre project site contains 8.6 acres of occupied habitat for the federally threatened Olympia pocket gopher (Thomomys mazama pugetensis). The applicant proposes to mitigate all habitat impacts through 8.6 acres of pre-purchased credits at the Service-approved Deschutes Corridor conservation site. The Service has preliminarily determined that the action qualifies for a categorical exclusion under NEPA. Public comments are due October 17, 2024.1
