NMFS has completed a final Programmatic Environmental Assessment and Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) under NEPA for its proposal to authorize directed take of ESA-listed Atlantic and shortnose sturgeon by translocation under Section 10(a)(1)(A) ESA research and enhancement permits. Translocation covers intentional capture, holding, transport, and release of individuals within or between river systems from Maine to Florida. NMFS concluded no significant environmental impacts result from this programmatic action and therefore no EIS is required. A draft PEA was published December 27, 2023; public comments were received and addressed in appendix 1 of the final PEA.1
