Threatened Species; Take of Anadromous Fish

National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) as cooperating agency, has published a notice of receipt of an Incidental Take Permit (ITP) application and Habitat Conservation Plan (HCP) from Pierce County Planning and Public Works, Washington. Pierce County seeks 30-year ITPs covering seven anadromous fish and lamprey species for incidental take arising from maintenance and operations of flood risk reduction structures along the Puyallup, White, and Nisqually Rivers. NMFS prepared a draft Environmental Assessment under NEPA analyzing the effects of issuing the permits. The public comment period closes August 22, 2025.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service published a notice of availability for an incidental take permit (ITP) application and habitat conservation plan (HCP) submitted by Pierce County Department of Planning and Public Works for maintenance and operations of flood risk reduction structures along the Puyallup, White, and Nisqually Rivers in Pierce County, Washington. The 30-year permit would authorize incidental take of seven covered species, including threatened bull trout (FWS jurisdiction) and Chinook salmon and steelhead (NMFS jurisdiction). NMFS is the NEPA lead and prepared the draft environmental assessment; FWS is a cooperating agency. Comments are due by August 22, 2025.
