The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) published a Notice of Availability on July 30, 2024, informing the public that five host railroads (BNSF Railway, Caltrain, New Mexico Rail Runner Express, Norfolk Southern Railway Company, and South Florida Regional Transportation Authority) jointly submitted a Request for Amendment (RFA) on July 11, 2024, to their FRA-approved Positive Train Control Safety Plans for their Interoperable Electronic Train Management Systems. The RFA includes a proposed emergency process affecting a significant portion or the entire fleet of these railroads' PTC-equipped trains. Public comments are due by August 19, 2024.
