The Bureau of Land Management has released a Draft EIS for the Ranegras Plains Energy Center, a proposed utility-scale solar photovoltaic facility in southeastern La Paz County, Arizona. Applicant Ranegras Plains Energy Center, LLC (a Shell New Energies subsidiary) seeks a 40-year right-of-way for 5,029 BLM-administered acres to build up to 700 megawatts of solar capacity, a battery energy storage system, and an 11-mile gen-tie line connecting to the Ten West Link 500-kV transmission system. The Draft EIS analyzes four alternatives including No Action; BLM identifies the Soils-Focused Alternative as preferred. The public comment period closes 45 days after the EPA's January 10, 2025 Notice of Availability.12
