The Forest Service has issued a final Record of Decision approving the Revised Land Management Plan (LMP) for the Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre, and Gunnison (GMUG) National Forests in southwestern Colorado, covering approximately 3.2 million acres across eight counties. The ROD, signed by Forest Supervisor Chad Stewart, concludes a planning process initiated in 2017 under the 2012 Forest Service Planning Rule and replaces a plan last significantly amended in 1991. The Revised LMP establishes desired conditions, standards, guidelines, management area allocations, wilderness recommendations, and eligible wild and scenic river segments, guided by over 20,000 public comments and consultation with 20 federally recognized tribes.
