Domtar Paper Company, LLC; Notice of Revised Schedule for Environmental Assessment

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission revised its schedule for issuing an Environmental Assessment (EA) for Domtar Paper Company LLC's non-capacity amendment application for the Rothschild Hydroelectric Project No. 2212, located on the Wisconsin River in Marathon County, Wisconsin. Domtar proposes to replace the existing timber crib spillway with hydraulically actuated overhead hinged crest gates on a reinforced concrete structure, plus labyrinth crest structures and stilling basins for both spillways. The new EA target date is December 12, 2025, moved up from February 23, 2026, and the EA will carry a 30-day public comment period.

FERC issued a Notice of Intent to prepare an Environmental Assessment for the Rothschild Hydroelectric Project No. 2212, located on the Wisconsin River in Marathon County, Wisconsin. Domtar Paper Company, LLC applied on August 27, 2024 (supplemented February and March 2025) for a non-capacity license amendment to replace the existing timber crib spillway with two hydraulically actuated overhead hinged crest gates on a reinforced concrete structure, plus labyrinth crest structures and stilling basins. Construction is expected to take roughly three and a half years. FERC staff plans to issue the EA by February 23, 2026, followed by a 30-day comment period.
