The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Galveston District, issued a Notice of Intent to prepare a Draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement (SEIS) for the Orange County separable element of the Sabine Pass to Galveston Bay Coastal Storm Risk Management and Ecosystem Restoration Project in Orange County, Texas. The SEIS is required because new technical studies and stakeholder engagement during the pre-construction engineering and design phase have produced alternative alignments that differ in location and environmental impact magnitude from those analyzed in the 2018 Record of Decision. Key impacts include additional losses of forested wetlands and estuarine marsh beyond the 69.5 acres and 2,340.2 acres estimated in the original EIS. The Draft SEIS is expected in mid- to late-2026; scoping comments are due October 9, 2025.12
