The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has received an application from the Osceola County Board of County Commissioners for a 5-year incidental take permit under the Endangered Species Act to authorize take of the federally listed sand skink and blue-tailed mole skink incidental to construction of a fire station on a 4.2-acre parcel in Osceola County, Florida. The project would convert approximately 2.82 acres of occupied skink habitat. The Service preliminarily determined the action qualifies as low-effect and may be categorically excluded from further NEPA review. Mitigation requires purchasing 5.64 acres of conservation bank credits before construction begins. Comments are due June 17, 2024.
