The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service received an application from SAR Industries, LLC for a 10-year incidental take permit under the Endangered Species Act to cover take of the federally threatened sand skink and bluetail mole skink during construction and operation of a commercial industrial development on 91.51 acres in Polk County, Florida. The project would convert approximately 1.63 acres of occupied skink habitat. The Service preliminarily determined the action qualifies as low effect and may be categorically excluded under NEPA. Mitigation requires purchase of 3.26 acres of conservation bank credits before any work begins. Public comments are due July 24, 2024.
