The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) issued a Notice of Intent to prepare an Environmental Assessment (EA) for the relicense of the 2.6-megawatt Saranac Hydroelectric Project No. 4472, owned by Union Falls Hydropower, L.P. The project is located on the Saranac River in Franklin and Clinton Counties, New York. FERC staff determined that relicensing would not constitute a major federal action significantly affecting the human environment, making an EA (rather than an EIS) the appropriate review instrument. The EA is targeted for issuance in May 2025, with public comments due July 2025.
