The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission issued a Notice of Intent to prepare an Environmental Assessment (EA) for Scott's Mill Hydro, LLC's application to construct and operate the proposed 4.5-megawatt Scott's Mill Hydroelectric Project No. 14867 on the James River in Amherst and Bedford Counties, Virginia. FERC staff determined that licensing the project would not constitute a major federal action significantly affecting the human environment, so an EA rather than a full EIS will be prepared. The EA is targeted for issuance on August 4, 2026, with a 30-day public comment period to follow.12
