The U.S. Coast Guard has published a draft Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement and Overseas Environmental Impact Statement (PEIS/OEIS) for establishing shipping safety fairways and associated vessel routing measures along the U.S. Atlantic Coast, from the U.S.-Canada maritime border in the Gulf of Maine to Miami, Florida, including one fairway anchorage near Delaware Bay. The action covers three areas: fairways from Long Island, New York to St. Lucie, Florida; potential routing measures in the Gulf of Maine; and a Southeast Zone off South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida where future measures may be considered. Three alternatives are evaluated: No Action, Alternative 1 (the Proposed Action), and Alternative 2, which extends selected port-approach fairways to the limit of the Exclusive Economic Zone. The Coast Guard does not anticipate significant permanent or long-term environmental impacts under either action alternative. The public comment period closes June 22, 2026.1
